Sasha Parfenova explores the art of collage by creating hybrid compositions of the natural world. Oftentimes, the imagery is camouflaged on a loosely painted background. The elements are carefully arranged to create a sense of depth that invites the viewer to discover the details within each piece.

Sasha’s imagination and eye for color allow for fruits, flowers, insects, and human forms to be integrated into supernatural plants with lips and hands, or regal bird creatures. She sources her materials from natural science magazines and botanical illustrations.

Sasha’s fascination with nature started at a young age. Growing up in Siberia, Sasha spent summers camping in the Altai Mountains. As an adult, she continues to be inspired by the delicacy and fragility of the natural world. Sasha received her Master of Fine Arts degree from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts University, Boston, in 2015. She currently lives and maintains her practice in Newton, MA.
